Temperature‐Regulated Turnover of Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter in Global Dark Marginal Basins
نویسندگان
چکیده
Oceanic absorption of heat generated by greenhouse gas emissions has resulted in warming the dark ocean (>200 m) that contains a large refractory DOM (RDOM) pool. However, changes microbially mediated production and degradation dynamics for RDOM components response to marginal basins remain unclear. Herein, we integrated data from South China, Mediterranean Japan Seas (temperature range: 0.09–15.1°C) demonstrate situ efficiency two ubiquitous humic-like fluorophores increased at higher temperature, whereas chromophores wavelength 325 nm (aCDOM(325)) changed temperature. Increased oxygen consumption reduction labile substrates future warmer environments may initiate final some semi-refractory components, thereby increasing recalcitrance RDOM, but decreasing inventory creating positive feedback rising atmospheric CO2.

The global distribution and dynamics of chromophoric dissolved organic matter.
Chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) is a ubiquitous component of the open ocean dissolved matter pool, and is important owing to its influence on the optical properties of the water column, its role in photochemistry and photobiology, and its utility as a tracer of deep ocean biogeochemical processes and circulation. In this review, we discuss the global distribution and dynamics of CD...

The omnipresence of chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the open ocean enables its use as a tracer for biochemical processes throughout the global overturning circulation. We made an inventory of CDOM optical properties, ideal water age (τ), and apparent oxygen utilization (AOU) along the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Ocean waters sampled during the Malaspina 2010 expedition. A wate...

متن کاملTurnover time of fluorescent dissolved organic matter in the dark global ocean
Marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) is one of the largest reservoirs of reduced carbon on Earth. In the dark ocean (4200m), most of this carbon is refractory DOM. This refractory DOM, largely produced during microbial mineralization of organic matter, includes humic-like substances generated in situ and detectable by fluorescence spectroscopy. Here we show two ubiquitous humic-like fluorophor...
